Wow! So glad to see the lyrics. First learnt it from a classmate of mine in Ekm, Kerala in the 3rd grade. Over time I had forgotten the last two lines, where the grandma bumps her head and blames it on me. Lovely! I am trying top teach my son the song and now I can happily go teach him the entire thing. :)

Hey,
I'm pretty sure the words are actually :

''I wished i lived in monkey land,
the land where i was born,
a monkey kissed me on the cheek,
and said goodbye to all!''

Thank you a trivial but poignant link to a vanished time and a vanished person....Tom

The lyrics I was taught
I wish I lived on Monkey Lane
The place where I was born
A monkey kissed me on the chin
And said goodbye to me

I used to play an old banjo
That old banjo got broke
I took it to the music shop
The music shop was shut

EXTRA
In the first Mad Max movie one of the bad guys on a motorcycle was singing this song

Just felt like searching this song. So glad. Had forgotten the last 2 lines. Our classmate taught us this 22 years back. What a delight and happy childhood memory. Thank you.
